Websites are not dead in 2025. In fact, they're more crucial than ever.

I need you to do me a favor.
Okay, maybe it’s two favors, but not a favor more.
Favor 1) If you hear someone say that websites are dead, please don’t believe it.
Favor 2) If you hear someone say that websites are dead, please don’t repeat it.
I can (sort of) understand where this opinion comes from. Gen Z is glued to TikTok and YouTube. Boomers are still all over Facebook. And as any self-respecting Millennial does, I get my TikToks and other content on Instagram.
It’s also really easy to run a business entirely out of social media these days.
But here’s the reality check: You don't own any of those platforms.
Not. One.
And that’s why having a website should still be a crucial part of any business’ strategy. It’s your channel.
You own it, you control what’s on it at all times, when users see your content, and how long it stays there.
It’s one of the few places left where an algorithm doesn’t interfere with your audience.
If TikTok or any other platform get banned tomorrow, your website will still be there for your customers.
If you’re talking about something that someone’s motivated to suppress, you can still share your message on your website.
If you’re someone who someone’s motivated to suppress, a shadowban doesn’t apply to your website.
(Seriously, if you’re a woman/LGBTQ/BIPOC/disabled/veteran-owned business or your business supports or talks about people and issues in those communities, you cannot rely on social media to be your friend.)
Having the right content on your website makes you more likely to be the resource ChatGPT, Claude, and others reference to millions of users.
Websites aren’t dead.
We’ve just stopped leveraging them strategically, and stopped making them valuable to engage with.
We’ve allowed social media to take over the relationship between us and our customers. If all of your eggs are in someone else’s basket…you’re risking going hungry.
So please, don’t believe it. Don’t repeat it.
And if you don’t know the role your website needs to play in your business’ strategy, come talk to me.
I’ll help you reclaim your power.
